The occasional flashing of Yellow Alert illuminated the command center, they used to be a constant solid before. Cronin sat in his chair, Ambassador Ruko Kelleg with his senior aid standing to his right occupied the space just behind the Conn and Operations consoles as they conversed.
It was time to open official diplomatic channels with the Ledosian government. Cronin was glad he wasn't spearheading this headache that and that Kelleg was present, even though all ships had a Diplomatic Corps liaison assigned to them to assist in the diplomatic side of missions. For the moment, the Project's head Diplomatic Officer was personally overseeing this first deep dive into the trade network objective.
"Hail Ledos," Cronin ordered.
"Aye sir," Jason opened the channel, "Channel open." He stated
"This is Ambassador Ruko Kelleg of the United Federation of Planets, we have come to establish peaceful relations with the Ledosian government and people."
It was a nice opening, though Cronin feared it might go unanswered due to Voyager's interaction with them.
"They are responding with visual, on the viewer now." Jason opened a visual channel displaying on the main screen.
The man appeared on the viewer, a typical Ledosian male, though it was the same one that was recorded by Voyager's sensors during their conversation. "I am Ambassador Brog. Peaceful relations you say, your Captain Janeway wasn't very peaceful. Is she with you?"
Kelleg sighed as softly as he could and his expression softened. "No Ambassador, Admiral Janeway and her crew have since moved onto other pursuits after their return, some still serve, but none are in our exploration expedition."
A clear sigh, from Brog on the other end, came through. "I see, I hope she was punished for interfering with our world."
"Unfortunately, I am unaware of any proceedings regarding Voyager's crew, so I can't comment on that. I understand that our people did wrong by your people, and I hope that by our peace talks we can discuss how we may improve our relations with the Ledosian government and people." Kelleg explained, he truly didn't know anything about Voyager's debriefing sessions.
Cronin could sense that as he picked up on a few stray thoughts about it from the Joined Trill. It was looking likely they may not even get to begin the negotiations until the Ledosian Ambassador spoke again.
The Ambassador glanced off-screen as clearly someone had distracted him, he seemed annoyed for a brief moment before he turned back and smiled. "Very well, it has come to my attention that the government wishes to hear what you have come to say, Federation Ambassador." Brog said and briefly glanced down in front of him. It seemed he tapped a few things, then made eye contact again. "I see you have multiple ships with you, some appear to be cargo vessels?"
"Yes, Ambassador, we have brought much from our Federation space to trade with your people and others as we explore." Kelleg replied, not mentioning a few key things like retracing Voyager's path, checking on those Janeway's actions had affected and many other objectives the Federation Council tasked Project Delta with.
Brog raised an eyebrow. "I see, very well, only your ship may dock at our main station, coordinates sent. I have been informed that you may visit our Trading Hub station at your leisure, coordinates sent as well. Though, you will be monitored in our space. I will have to insist that special permission must be petitioned to visit the surface." It seemed he didn't want to smile as it looked forced. "Welcome to Ledos, one of our traffic controllers will guide you to your docking berth once you arrive in orbit. Brog out."
The older Ledosian Ambassador's face disappeared, followed by their government's emblem appeared. Kelleg turned around slowly and raised an eyebrow. "That seemed to have gone well." He commented with suspicion in his tone. He glanced over at his aide, who nodded a few times.
"It did appear to be going bad at first," the aide added.
Cronin stood and approached Kelleg. "Well, it seems we are clear to get this operation underway."
"Indeed," Kelleg replied with his eyebrow still raised. "Well Captain, looks like we have things to do, your team checks out the Trading Hub while I meet with their government officials with the Merchant Marines rep."
"Yes," Cronin said and nodded. "Helm take us in and follow traffic control, Tactical alert the other ships to hold position where traffic control tells us is okay, Operations passive scans until we dock, especially on the tetryon barrier." He gave his orders and suddenly recalled all that news about the Hierarchy and Kazon attacks.
"I forgot to ask about the attacks," Kelleg stated as he made a few steps towards the turbolift but turned back to look at Cronin.
"Actually, I think it is best we don't. We should focus on our purpose here, however should they request our help then we can discuss it." Cronin said as he folded his arms across his chest.
Montoya sat at the main science station and listened to the exchange, looking up from his console periodically. He had been monitoring the standard sensors for any information on the system to update the information they had from Voyager's database, When the order to scan came through he looked down to the Ops officer. "Lt. Nebuchadnezzar, route your scans through to my station for comparison to Voyager's records."
"Yessir," the Hermat replied, and the rest of the scans telemetry data began to stream on Montoya's console. Nebuchadnezzar's fingers tapped at zir console controls, ze had the first set of scan results next to the new for comparison. Nothing much has changed since, so ze didn't think it was necessary to announce it.
"Very well," Kelleg said then, and left the Bridge with his aide.
Paisley looked up from her Console. "All systems are go," she said. She looked to Montoya. "Can one of your people put a rush on the schematics for the Voyager stuff, please?" She asked. "The sooner we can get that, the sooner we can coordinate and really get what we're headed into," she said. The Science team was working on compiling the data from the previous logs from the old ship, and it would assist HER in her job, she hoped. If nothing else, it might at least tell her what not to do.
The original Voyager logs were available to all but the the database was going to see constant comparisons to whatever data they collected on their explorations. Having spent spent two years studying records he felt almost, as strange as it sounded, like he knew what they had gone through. "I'm shunting you the data on the original planetary scans to you now. The sealing of the Ventu energy barrier is probably still a serious soar spot for them."
Jason waited for a moment after his console beeped a message to him with the results of the weapons analysis, "Captain we have finished identifying all the battle damage," Jason spoke towards the Captain. "Would you like me to forward it to your console or a PADD?" he asked.
"PADD, please," the Captain replied from where he stood in the center of the bridge, where he watched Kelleg talk with a Ledosian official. He turned and walked back to his chair, he sat down and picked up a padd left there. A quick skim of the contents and Cronin held it towards Jason for wireless transfer, he stared out the viewscreen.
Jason accepted the PADD and opened the report, handing the PADD back to the Captain. "We found weapon traces from both the Hierarchy and the Kazon Sir. Our analysis found that most damage was directed at the station, of the three Ledosian destroyers, all suffered battle damage, two appear abandoned, destroyer one with minor damage, destroyer two almost no damage, destroyer three seems to have been targeted with a majority of the damage." Jason read the quick summary to the Captain. "Given the likely repair rates and damage to the ships, operational status in three months for destroyers one and two, the station and third destroyer almost a year." He took a second to breath after the report, making sure he didn't forget anything. "Oh, we also traced the engine trails while putting this together, Hierarchy engine trails are the oldest indicating they were here first, their trails are mostly around the station and destroyers one and two, the Kazon trails came in after around destroyer three and the station. We don't know the exact timeline yet, but it seems safe to assume that the Kazon were here within the day, if not hours, after the Hierarchy." Jason nodded, sure that he remembered all the important information.
It seemed odd that the Ledosians would just leave their destroyers laying around undocked, even if heavily damaged. Cronin noted on his padd to give the Ambassador this info and the offer of Starfleet's engineers as a show of friendship. He found it strange that a species motivated by commerce, much like the Ferengi, would attack the Ledosians. He made a note to contact the Strategic Information Service and see if they could look into this.
The notice that the Kazon seized on the opportunity the Hierarchy made was troubling, like the Kazon had been scouting out possible targets long before the Hierarchy showed up. Does that mean that there is a Kazon base nearby, another thing the SIS can look into. "Thank you Commander Morris, I know you have duties to tend to so carry on," Cronin said and nodded at his Chief of Security.
"Aye sir," Jason nodded and started walking back towards the tactical station.
Moments later, it was time to head in. "Take us in Helm, and inform the fleet to form up tightly to follow." Cronin ordered as the new mission was about to begin for real.
"Aye sir," the pilot at the navigation station replied, both the Pioneer and Vigilant began moving towards Ledos at full impulse. The two Soyuz destroyers and three Mandrill Merchant Marine freighters followed in tight formation.
