She's usually gregarious and friendly when off duty, and tries to be reserved when on duty, but can still jump the gun. She harbors a massive chip on her shoulder with regards to her ex husband, with a deep history of bad blood, and the fastest way to get her to turn from cheerful and teasing to nasty and cold is to mention him. She is at her core a starfleet officer, and devoted to the fleet, and currently she is eager to get herself away from a failed marriage and everything she was used to, and explore something new. At what age did they start Starfleet Academy if they did?) | Tamsin grew up on the famed planet of Izar. One of humanity's earliest colonies, Izar has been a staple member of the Federation for most of its history, having a long standing tradition among its people of service; be it to the people of Izar itself, or the Federation as a whole. Numerous diplomats, politicians and Starfleet Officers have come from Izar, and Izar is the home of the Starfleet Tactical School, and the famed Izar Institute of Meteorology, producing some of the Federations top tacticians and experts in the study of weather patterns (a key component of any terraforming effort). This was the legacy that Tamsin was born into. The younger child of Harlan and Odessa, Tamsin is the product of generations of the Wyrick clan, one of the original settlers of Izar, and carries the weight of that history on her shoulders. Her family had been generations of farmers, some of the best and brightest on Izar, with her father being the head of the Agriculture sub chair at the Meteorology Institute, specializing in the effects of planetary weather systems on agricultural development across various common and uncommon biomes within the Federation. Tamsin's mother tended to oversee the sprawling farm land that the family owned and operated. Farm life was...not fulfilling to Tamsin, who was often at odds with her mother on the subject. Her brother seemed to take to it just fine, but it was a dull existence for the young Izarian, who wanted more out of life. Following in the steps of her great grandfather, a widely respected former Starfleet officer, Tamsin chose upon graduation to join up with Starfleet. By honoring his legacy, she felt she could continue to uphold her family name, and at the same time, not be stuck in a life path chosen for her by someone else, forced to bend to their expectations. Tamsin attend Starfleet Academy as soon as she had finished her initial schooling on Izar. The Federation was still recovering at the time from the Dominion war, and during her tenure at the academy, the USS Voyager managed to find a way home from the Delta Quadrant Decades ahead of when it could have been reasonably expected. Thus, Tasmin was able to get into Multidisciplinary Studies 5357, in its revamped, inaugural year as "The Delta Quadrant, 101." Despite its boring name, this course would be one of the most satisfying classes that Tasmin would experience, and would be directly related to her efforts to get posted to exploration missions, culminating years later with her posting to the USS Pioneer, reporting for duty with nothing but a duffle bag on her shoulders, A collection of artifacts and trinkets from decades of service and a chit for a cargo container with the remnants of a bitter divorce, ready to leave for the other side of the Galaxy. |
