Personality & Traits

General Overview (Current states of mind, mannerisms, likes and dislikes, personality quirks and traits. Include learned languages if you wish) Growing up on an agricultural colony world, Corvus is a prototypical 'farmboy'. He's polite, well mannered and exuberant but not adverse to hard work. His driving ambition has been to find ways to put his live to the service of others - carrying on cultural tradition of his homeworld. Though his family were agricultural in nature, his father's early death and mother's bohemian artistic temperament made for a more open, accepting person in Corvus. He joined Starfleet in order to explore the galaxy and became a hospitalman to carry on the tradition of helping others. He fell into becoming a combat medic by accident but has since come to determine that it's where his calling was all the time. He's religious in a more spiritual rather than dogmatic way.
Strengths & Weaknesses (Please have at least 3 of each, these can be both personality and physical. Some can be both a Strength and a Weakness depending on situation.) Open, honest, kind, helpful. He prefers the idea of lifting people up whenever possible.
Tries to see the good in most things.

Can be a bit too open and exuberant and maybe a bit too helpful. He does, at times, find the demands of combat missions to be incongruent with his core personality. Takes the loss of any of his teammates or patients much too hard.
Ambitions (What does your character wants to achieve at the time of joining the crew of the Pioneer.) Ultimately, after serving some time as a medic, he's decided he would love to find a way to obtain a medical degree but not become an officer and miss out on going on away missions with combat teams. He sees combat teams as not only his calling but his 'family' and is very protective of them in all areas - especially making sure they have quick, accurate and expert medical care to help save them from loss of limb, function or life.
Hobbies & Interests (What activities does your character like doing while off-duty? What does your character have a passion for that may led to an activity?) Loves fishing, camping, hunting, hiking, gardening, cooking (as it relates to foraging/hunting his own foods - never cares much for 'gourmet' or 'dinner party' type cooking). Tries hard to keep up with medical techniques and knowledge in order to help keep his teams in the best health and shape possible. Has come to enjoy weapons training as well as hand to hand training. Is an early adopter and eager proponent of the diagnostic glove system as it allows him to do his job better.

Personal History & Career (Starfleet or Civilian)

Personal History (How did your character grow up? Did your character do any civilian jobs or travel before applying to Starfleet Academy? Is your character's species a Federation member? Where did your character attend Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Schooling? Did your character live on their world or live amongst the stars? At what age did they start Starfleet Academy if they did?) Corvus Hannah great up in the Eos colony on Brighid, an early Terran colony. While the colony was agricultural, they weren't the type to reject technology but used it as an enhancement to their lives rather than living their lives by it. They preferred the more agrarian lifestyle of farming, ranching and simple living. Brighid, once the long terraforming process was completed, was a good replica of Earth, with lush forests, wide plains, mountains, jungles, rivers, canyons and all the best features - including deserts. With the aide of technology, life in the colony was able to flourish as it established itself. However, as the colonists began to take hold of the planet, they depended on themselves more and technology less.

Corvus was born to Tristan and Diana Hannah, he a farmer/rancher who enjoyed much in the way of outdoors activities to include foraging, hunting, camping, fishing, scavenging and long term backpacking. His mother was a more bohemian artist who nevertheless loved her husband and child above all else. The family was happy and well adjusted. It came as a blow to a young Corvus when a hiking accident took his father's life, but with his loving mother and the help of extended family, he remained a happy, well adjusted child. However, the early death of his father only reinforced Corvus's desire to continue the colony's cultural traditions of serving others. As he grew, and family helped to manage the small farm, Corvus increasingly dreamed of traveling the stars and exploring the vastness of the galaxy around them.

At sixteen he obtained information about Starfleet. Though the colonists were well-educated, Corvus realized his colonies educational system wouldn't prepare him for entrance to Starfleet Academy. However, he could enlist and bypass the more stringent educational requirements. He looked at the various enlistment specialties and settled on becoming a hospitalman (corpsman). He felt it would give him a good balance of adventure while also allowing him to help others.

Though it took some convincing, eventually his mother came around to the idea and gave her blessing for him to enlist -provided he didn't become 'absent' and would keep in contact with her as much as he could. She realized that Corvus may not be able to come home for months or years at a time, but she wasn't going to lose all contact with her only child. Also, she feared another conflict such as the Dominion War, or the Borg attacks and Corvus's safety. If he kept in regular contact, she could be sure he would be safe.

Corvus completed a delayed enlistment and shortly after his 18th birthday was off to Starfleet enlistment training with his corpsman training to follow. Coming from a farming/ranching and outdoors background, he found the physical part of the training easy but the educational parts were a more difficult matter. However, as he was well liked by instructors and fellow crewmen, he received plenty of help in the educational parts as much as he helped others who needed help, guidance and encouragement for other parts of training.

Corvus graduated basic training and found himself stationed on Starbase 359, a medical starbase, for further training. Because of all the assistance and studying he had to do to complete basic training, he was well prepared and was quick to take up new studies and was always trying to learn more.

After a single rotation he was transferred to the Valiant. It was while the Valiant was transporting a Marine team to an assignment that the team's sergeant, on the lookout for a replacement medic - their previous medic having to be sidelined after developing an illness. It was just Corvus's size that got him the job - the sergeant figured a big, athletic kid could keep up with his team.

Though the mission was successful, it was an eye-opener for Corvus as a medic. First he didn't realize how much tiny problems affected the mission - such as foot care - not to mention the paltry early medical interventions he was able to perform. He knew that if he knew more, was better equipped and trained, two of the Marines that were severely injured could have recovered fully. It also opened his eyes to both the benefits of being on a team like the Marines - which gave him the same feeling of family and community that he was missing from being back home - as well as the drawbacks. The sergeant, in the meantime, not only saw a young man who could easily have been a Marine had the recruiters on his homeworld be a little less biased, but someone with the skills and capability of becoming a great medic where combat teams were concerned. Because of this, he approached Corvus with the idea of transferring to his team and becoming their new combat medic.

Corvus agreed before he knew what all was involved - he would have to train harder to raise his medic abilities and keep up those certifications but also qualify to the same training standards as the Marine teams, including weapons and hand to hand combat. It reduced what little free time he had to almost nothing as he worked to get up to specs on all the extra training, but he found it worth it to be considered among 'combat specialists'. It also came with a fast promotion to Petty Officer 3rd Class.

He served a year with that unit before transferring to another unit, being lead by a newly minted 'butterbar' - 2nd Lt. Christian Rogers. He has been with Roger's command since, as their combat medic. He has since promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class on schedule.
